Student Visa Requirements

There are four different types of visa available for anybody who is planning to study in New Zealand for over six months and is above the age of 18.

  • Exchange Student Visa:Full-time study for up to 4 years for an approved student exchange program.
  • Foreign Government Supported Student Visa: Full-time study for up to 4 years on a loan or scholarship provided by foreign government.
  • Pathway Student Visa:A single student visa that offers study for up to 5 years for 3 consecutive courses with part-time work.

Being an Indian student, one would usually need a Fee-paying Student Visa.

Documentation required to apply for New Zealand’s Fee Paying student visa
You will need:

  • A Passport that must be valid for at least three months after your period of stay in New Zealand.
  • A letter of acceptance from an education provider from New Zealand, stating the minimum duration course, tuition fees either in domestic or foreign currency.
  • Proof of a place offered by the education institute and approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.
  • A written confirmation by a person or institute that you have an accommodation available in New Zealand.

Language proficiency test
To apply for study visa in New Zealand, students must clear an English proficiency test to prove their language skill. IELTS and TOEFL are widely accepted tests in majority of colleges and Universities in New Zealand. In some education institutes, PTE is also a valid language proficiency test.
